50 year old...gesh...just turned the big five O....not in the best shape, but better than most 50year olds. Would love to get back in shape, to what I was about 8 years ago. I don't think it will be too hard, just have to START. Once I start, if things are the way they used to be, I'll feel bad if I do not excercise. Sometimes it is hard to "self motivate". And here it is December 4th, 2007, in Denver, should be cold, but is unusually warm today. About 70 degrees. Much easier to run or bike, when it's this warm.......wish me good luck (or good motivation, cause luck has nothing to do with this plan)
Goals:
GOAL #1 To get up to at least 5 miles running. In my earlier years, I would set a date, or have a "run" that I wanted to be in shape for. Now, I am smarter (and wiser, and older), and I will go with how my body feels. Listening to my body, and how much it can take, will regulate how offten I excercise, and the duration of my runs.
I'm thinking biking will not be an option for regular exercise in the winter, but may be helpful for cross training on days when the weather is good.
Goal #2 Some mild strength training. Complete body. Some at home on the "Total Gym" and some at the rec center, doing the complete circut. An everyother day would be GREAT. Or every day, alternating upper body and lower body, would be perfect. But probably not realistic.
Goal #3 Yoga every night. I mean...come on...how hard would it be to take 20 to 30 minutes each night for a yoga work-out that makes you feel good, no mater how hard of a day it was. It will take about 2 to 3 weeks of 'a regular yoga routine', to get everything stretched out again, and I will have to be careful not to over do anything until I get used to the stretches again.
Interests:
My interests in "exercise" are probably all mentioned in the goals section. Except for the swimming, which will have to wait till summer.
