Nighttime Munchies & Avtivity
May 01, 2008

I don't know what it is about munching at night.  Why a yummy snack has to go with a good tv show.  If I could limit it to the light cheese and low fat crackers, it would be okay.  I could deal with that.  But I usual end up adding on a cookie or other chocolatey sweet treat, I'm sabotaging myself I know it, but then I do it anyway!!!

My activity level is staying high and I am so proud of myself for that.  I'm really enjoying the weekly yoga class I am taking.  I just got Ellen Barrett's  DVD called Slim Sculpt.  I did that on Tuesday and I LOVED it.  So I ordered her new DVD called Yogini Workout.  I can't wait to get it and try it out.  I added in some free weights today for my upper body (since I worked my lower body mainly during the step aerobics yesterday).  I hadn't done any for a while and it felt good to get into them again.

Rather than fighting the urge to munch in front of the TV, why not just get out from in front of the TV?? Get out and go for a walk... take a martial arts class. Change your habits.
As an aside, someone mentioned protein bars as a snack? Do watch protein bars... most of them are no more than chocolate bars with added protein and will spike your insulin, which will set off that whole vicious craving cycle. Even sugar free ones are usually high in carbs. I still think the answer lies in changing your TV watching habit... get up and get moving!
Good luck!

I am with you on that. My whole day goes well until 8-10:00 at night I get all kind of munchies. I have Balance protein bars handy and they seem to stope that craving. Or some popcorn.

I TOTALLY understand what you're saying. Seems when i'm in front of the TV it means food. One thing i've set up for my son and I and guests is that if we eat we MUST eat in the kitchen and no where else. If you're hungry, get up and go to the kitchen. It's really helped us so far. Yoga is so great. I haven't done that in long time but someone else you may want to check out is Rodney Yee. he has multiple levels from beginner to advanced. There's others but they escape me at the moment. If you like to swim that is great too. i substitute that for running since it's non impact.
