I swear I am alive
Aug 12, 2008

I am sorry I have not been around. My niece was in town for a week and when you live in Vegas you always end up entertaining people. We had a great time and did a ton of stuff. We saw 3 shows, she got to meet Criss Angel ( every 15 yr old girls dream...lol), I took her to Cali  to swim with sharks and also to go to Seaworld, we hung off the edge of the Strat (about 1,000ft off the ground) and spun around at about 45 mph, we ate at all kinds of great restaurants and the list goes on. All in all she had a good time, I almost wasn't able to get her back on the plane to go home...lol. Never went to the gym while she was here but I did plenty of running around and I still lost weight so I am happy. I am now down a total of 66.8lbs in 21 weeks and feeling good. I know I was posting pretty regular and then disappeared so I wanted to check in. LOL Just hoping someone missed me. : )

Well it was bound to happen
Jul 16, 2008

I knew once I began working out the numbers would slow down. I actually stayed the same this week. I am ok with that because this was this first time I looked in the mirror and could see some change in my body looking in the mirror so I know the gym is paying off. I weighed in much later in the day (where as I normally weigh in first thing in the morning) and I had already had 2 meals and more than 30 oz. of water so that may have affected my weigh in. Also I have been working out regularly for about 4 weeks now and I imagine I have gained some muscle which is also affecting the number on the scale. I am meeting with a trainer on Friday who hopefully can show me how to use my body fat percentage caliper correctly so I can begin to measure my body fat % as well. I may also go pick up a tape to measure with as well. I know I haven't cheated or misbehaved so I have a guilt free conscious and no need to feel bad. After all I have dropped 57.6lbs in 18weeks that's not to shabby. I have consistently lost weight every week till now and at some point you slow down or plateau. So now I get to tweak things and see what gets it going again. Or at least have something to compare besides the scale to make sure what I am doing is still working.

Half Marathon??
Jul 16, 2008

I am gonna post this here and in a blog so excuse the double post but not everyone uses these forums. (Not sure why cause they can be very helpful!) Anyway I am thinking of challenging myself to doing a half marathon run in the LV marathon this December. I have never done a marathon or half marathon and know that there is a lot of training involved. I have found some sample training programs, but the problem I am running into is that most are training 5 days with 2 days of rest (or 4 on & 3 off) Now the problem I am having is. Currently I am going to the gym 3 times a week working my way up to 5 and I am not going on the 3 days that I work. I am a massage therapist and I work in a casino on the strip so I do A LOT of walking (if you've been to Vegas you know how big these casinos are). To give you an idea I wore a pedometer for the 3 days I work to see how far I was walking and I actually walked 28 miles in 3 days. So if I am training on my days off and resting on the days I work I'm really not "resting" my body. I work Sat, Sun & Tues and as you can imagine Sat & Sun can be very busy. I usually am pretty sore and tired by the time I get home Sunday night. So I am just curious as to if anyone has ever run a marathon or a half marathon and has done a training program? If so do you have any recommendations for me on how to work in my training and resting in with my work. I also am trying to work on my flexibility because I have the world's tightest hamstrings (yes sad for someone in my line of work..lol) and I know this could cause serious injury on a long run/walk. Any suggested programs or plan outlines would be greatly appreciated.

Nice to see the down slope
Jul 02, 2008

It's nice to watch the downward slope of my weight loss chart. I made all 3 days to the gym last week and have gone once this week and have 2 appointments scheduled tomorrow. My cough asthma is giving me some trouble but I was able to make it through a whole hour class Monday but Tuesday was the worse my chest has ever felt. Since I moved out west it hasn't acted up at all. It has always been seasonally induced usually from summer to winter so it was weird to have the tightness in my chest and difficulty breathing happen in the dead heat of summer here. I don't have an inhaler cause I haven't needed one. So when I went to my doctor's office to weigh in today I mentioned the issue to see if the doc wanted to take a peak at me to make sure that there was not anything else going on. I personally was pretty sure it was the asthma as I am use to what it feels like and what the symptoms are, but figure it was better to be safe than sorry right? Well he did want to come take a peak and all my vitals were great and everything sounded great so we both agreed that it was the asthma. He was nice enough to prescribe me an inhaler which saved me an office visit. I imagine we are getting a little bit of nasty stuff in our air from the wildfires in California and my lungs are not liking it. Oh well the inhaler should help that out. Either way I am down 55.8lbs at the end of 16 weeks and couldn't be happier. I'm gonna skip the work out today since I think it did irritate my breathing, but once I have my inhaler later and the lungs are open and have a day of rest I'll be ready to go again. I have scheduled 2 workouts for tomorrow as well.

well....
Jun 25, 2008

Still working on figuring out the whole exercise log thing on here. I'll play with it long enough that I'll get it sooner or later. Well my grand total of miles walked in 3 days at work was an amazing 28.1miles...that is insane! I knew we walked a lot but damn that was crazy. So I found a workout buddy online but she has no showed on me for both days that I set with her. Which is ok because I still went and worked out. : ) I did 45 mins on the treadmill both days (Mon. I burned 373 calories but today I burned a whopping 500 calories) Today I had my heart rate up to 193 at one point...whew breaking a serious sweat. I do interval work but my avg HR was 163 today which I thought was pretty dang good. I amazingly was not out of breath of struggling for air. I make a very conscious effort to make sure I am breathing when I am exercising. I have been trying to get this Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle book read but have been really busy at work. If I leave it at home we are dead and I am twiddling my thumbs kicking myself for not bringing my book, then if I bring it I end up being swamped and can't even think about looking at it much less reading it. Which is good cause that means I am making money. When I'm sitting around I'm not making any money. ( I claim that me bringing it is reverse psychology so I can make money...lol) Oh well I am getting there slowly but surely. : )

WOW....
Jun 22, 2008

Ok so I work in a spa in a casino in Las Vegas. If you have ever been to Las Vegas you know everything is huge and as close as everything looks it's really not. I was curious as to just how much I walk in a day and have been meaning to get a pedometer so I could see. Well the other day when I went to GNC and bought an Accu-measure body fat caliper and saw a pedometer so I grabbed it too. Today I put it on to see how much I walked. So today from the front door of my house to work, around work all day and home I walked a total of 9.3 miles. Good lord now I know why I am tired when I get home...lol. I'm sure it's not usually that much except today was a floating day for me which means I change rooms all day so I do a lot of extra running around. But I know it's probably still a good 5 miles on a normal day. (at minimum)

For the record
Jun 09, 2008

You probably will not ever see me log my food on here because I have a hand written journal that I log all of my food in. I know it would be easier to log it on here but I feel it is important for me to keep doing my journal as I have been. Plus I can take my written journal to my doctor a lot easier than this...lol. My journal is where I started and it was something I always thought was too much hassle. Then I retrained my brain to know it was only a few minutes out of my day and that I was worth those few minutes. My doctor told me when I started the Trimcare program that he felt it was a key component to the plan. He said he did not require me to do it but that he felt people who did where much more successful than those who did not. I also am working on getting back into a regular work out regiman. I spoke to a trainer in the gym at my spa and he said he felt like I did the right thing by getting my eating in the right place first. He said people's diet is the most important thing. (diet in the sense of what they eat all the time not diet in the term that us americans love to use it) He also said that how I was doing it with slowly building my exercise regimen was good. I knew that in the past I have always tried to do everything at once and I would always be all gung ho but would quit with in a few weeks. He said that is true and that is why most people quit. That was the realization I had come to when I started my new lifestyle and it was nice to have a professional confirm my opinion. I have a busy few days and will be between houses this week. (house/dog/teen sitting for my friend) But once I am settle in this Wednesday I am going to begin to pull out my schedule and commit myself to some exercise days. I am putting them in my calender and my PDA just like they are any other appointment. I also have started reading Tom Venuto's Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle so hopefully I can get that knocked out in the next few days. I'll take it to work with me so when we are slow and I am in between appointments I can work on reading it. So if you don't see food logged and exercise logged right now that is why. You however should start seeing the exercise logged soon.

About my diet
May 30, 2008

So I know I'm gonna get asked about my diet plan so I am going to go ahead and describe it in this blog. My diet is a medically supervised diet. I had to have a physical & an EKG before starting. These are the basic guidelines for my diet per my doctor:

I drink at least 80oz. of water a day (ok this is a chore for me...I do not like water).

I get no more than 20g of fat per day.

I get 60g of protein a day. (preferably closer to 80 or 100)

I eat smaller more frequent meals.

I take a multivitamin.

I stay between 1,000-1,600 (my personal doc prefers 1,200-1,400)-I've actually been between 1,100-1,200 so far.

I log every food I eat. (I cannot express how important this is)

I also go in once to get a shot (vitamin b6-12 and a fat burner), weigh in and have my vitals checked.

I am now adding in CLA, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Digestive Enzymes and Magnesium. The CLA is something I was told I could take from the beginning if I wanted to but never did. The ALA helps convert glucose into energy and a great antioxidant. The digestive enzymes are to help my body break down my food better especially the extra protein. I do break up my protein sources so it's not all meat, I get some from yogurt and cottage cheese as well. The Magnesium helps maintain proper blood pressure levels (not an issue for me), promotes proper muscle  function keeping them relaxed and preventing stiffness, and a million more wonderful things. So this is the basics on my diet. Sorry for the starting and stopping of it on my page....couldn't figure out how to edit the errors I made. But all is well and there should be no more editing of it now. : )

New to this site
May 30, 2008

I found this site researching some supplements and thought this is great...wish I had found it sooner. I started my last diet a little over 11 weeks ago. By last I don't mean latest ...I mean the last one I am ever going to do. It is more of a lifestyle change than anything however I do consider it a diet to some degree. Mainly because I am not allow certain things in my diet at this point that I will eventually allow back in (with moderation) once I am to my healthy goal weight. My current weight loss at the end of 11 weeks is 42.5lbs. I have been very dedicated to my diet plan, but am still having some issues committing to working out. I get some basic exercise each week but it's normal activity for me more than a workout. I work 3 days a week and my daily walk from the parking garage to my spa is about 1- 1 1/2miles (I live in Vegas and work in a casino....if you've been to Vegas you know everywhere is far...lol). Plus I do massage so that is exercise in itself as well (Sat & Sun I do anywhere from 6-8hours of it a day) But getting to the gym is a challenge for me. I don't mind working out once I am there it's just the going that I hate...funny huh? Most people hate the workout. I have a private blog with my friends and family and they are really supportive but I think it will be really good to be on here with people who are doing the same thing as myself. It's a different kind of support system and having both would be really great.
